I. Summary of Poultry Varieties

In the Chinese poultry market, the main varieties of poultry include White-feathered Chicken, Yellow-feathered Chicken, and Local Breeds.

White-feathered Chicken: A fast-growing breed originating from the American White Rock chicken. It has a short growth cycle, typically around 42 days from hatching to market weight.
Yellow-feathered Chicken: Known for superior meat quality compared to white-feathered breeds. Developed from local Chinese breeds, it grows at a slower rate but offers better meat texture and taste.
Local Breeds: These are non-systematically bred indigenous chickens, often raised in free-range systems with minimal use of feed, resulting in higher meat and egg quality.

In appearance, white-feathered chickens have white feathers and skin, smaller combs, and large body sizes at market weight. Yellow-feathered chickens exhibit a variety of feather colors including yellow, speckled, or yellow-speckled with brown tail feathers and light yellow skin. Local breeds typically have darker plumage compared to yellow-feathered chickens and are smaller in size.

II. Composition of the Supply Chain

The poultry supply chain in China consists of the following components:

- Animal health and poultry feed suppliers
- Breeding companies: Provide breeding stock

- Poultry farming enterprises: Purchase breeding stock and manage the growing and feeding of poultry
Downstream:
- Slaughterhouses: Receive mature poultry for processing
- Restaurants: Purchase processed poultry products
- Meat processing companies: Produce various meat products
- Consumers: Purchase meat products

In this supply chain, animal health and poultry feed suppliers provide necessary vaccines and medicines to poultry farms, while breeding companies supply breeding stock. Poultry farming enterprises are responsible for rearing and feeding. Once poultry reaches market weight, it is sent to slaughterhouses for processing. The processed products then flow to restaurants, meat processors, and directly to consumers. The direct sale of poultry without processing has decreased over time due to stricter market regulations.
